Nikola Jokic has been fined $25,000 for using derogatory and offensive language in his postgame interview following the Nuggets’ 108-107 win over the Bulls on Oct. 31.

The fine was handed down Wednesday by executive vice president of basketball operations Kiki VanDeWeghe.

When speaking about Bulls center Wendell Carter, Jokic said, “no homo, he’s longer than you expect.”

Two separate comments made by Roy Hibbert following a 2013 playoff game, one of which was the same phrase that Jokic used, resulted in a $75,000 fine, and the league has historically fined players for comments similar to the one Jokic made.

The remark from Jokic was inappropriate, and the fine can be a lesson for the 23-year-old. The league has made it clear over the last few years that comments like the one Jokic made have no place in the NBA.
