Some not-so-great medical news from Avalanche headquarters today:
Nikita Zadorov will miss weekend games against Chicago and Arizona because of a lower-body injury. Jared Bednar called it a “tweak” of something, and said it isn’t a serious thing. The Avs will call up a defenseman from the Colorado Eagles, but that has yet to happen at press time.
*UPDATE: Anton Lindholm is the call-up.
Otherwise, it was a low-key practice. Bednar did say that Philipp Grubauer will start Friday’s game against Chicago. That will be his second straight start, so it’s fair to assume that he may now be considered the No. 1 guy, although Semyon Varlamov will start Saturday against the Coyotes, Bednar said.
Bednar also said he will tweak his lineup some, against the Blackhawks. Alexander Kerfoot will start the game on the second line, with Colin Wilson and J.T. Compher. Tyson Jost and Sven Andrighetto will be demoted to the fourth line.
Neither Jost nor Andrighetto had a single Corsi event for in the victory over Montreal, and a combined 27 against. That, folks, means they almost never had full possession of a puck for scoring attempts.
