NHL Weekend Gambling Primer: Overs, unders, and trade deadline

Week three of this article, and we can proudly claim if you followed our advice, you’ve made some money.

Thanks to our lord and savior Nathan Raymond MacKinnon, and his +1200 first goal of the game last Sunday evening, hitting on our MacKinnon first goal-scorer prop, and both the Blue Jackets and Penguins coming through for some straight up wins, last week was a good week.  We like money, so let’s make more of it this weekend.

Last week:

Straight up Wagers: 2-1-1

Overall: 3-2-1

New Jersey @ Edmonton o6.5 (-110)

If you’ve been watching the Avs you caught a glimpse of New Jersey’s offensive firepower last week when they beat a tired Avs team on the second night of a back-to-back. Edmonton also has a couple of guys who can shoot the puck. Jersey has played two games this week and given up 6 goals in each. I think these two teams will be happy to fly around and play a little game of who can outscore the other. I don’t love the 6.5 number but let’s not overthink it, take the over.

Carolina -1.5 (+160) vs Washington

Carolina has lost two in a row and dropped one to Washington earlier this month. They are too good not to right the ship tonight. However, I don’t love the -170 Money Line value, so I’ll take my chances on the puck line at a better value and pray for the empty net cover.

NY Rangers @ Tampa Bay Lightning u5.5 (+105)

Betting the under is like betting the “Don’t Come Line” in craps. It’s not fun, and everyone around you will hate you for betting against fun, but if you win, does it matter? I am assuming we will see the best out of Igor Shesterkin and Andrei Vasilevskiy as the countrymen face off against one another. Take the under, don’t tell anybody, and find something else to do at 6pm Saturday other than watch this game so you don’t start to hate yourself for rooting against goals.

Montreal Moneyline (-149) vs Ottawa

Montreal killed our Money Line parlay last week but they’ve been a lot more competitive since Martin St. Louis moved behind the bench. Ottawa is the capital of Canada, and that is the only thing I could come up with to say about the Senators. This will be the second night of a back-to-back for them, while Montreal is at home resting and waiting. There are a lot of high Money Lines out there this weekend so -149 is about as good of value as we are going to find. Let’s bet Montreal and give them a chance to reward our faith in them.

Why Not ML Parlay +486

TB -182, Col -295, FLA -228, Pit -250, EDM -250

Prop of the week

I’m sticking with the Trade Deadline theme this week, and taking the Toronto Maple Leafs to be the team to be the first team Mark Giordano plays for after March 22nd (+400). Gio is being held out of games, so you know he’s going to be on the move, and I think the Leafs will be looking to make a splash after missing out on Ben Chiarot.

Record this season:

Straight Wagers 4-3-1 (+ 1.38units)

Overall record 5-4-1 (+13.38units)
