It was 1989, the Broncos had only featured one 1,000 yard rusher since Otis Armstrong in 1976 and were looking for a running back. Bobby Humphrey to this day is the only player in Broncos franchise history to be selected via the supplemental draft. Humphrey was selected in the first round of the 1989 supplemental draft and rushed for 2,386 yards with 14 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Broncos.
Denver was rumored to be interested in Clemson’s Isaiah Battle, who went to the St. Louis Rams in the fifth round of the NFL’s supplemental draft Thursday, but declined to surrender a 2016 draft pick to take the lineman.
Battle was one of seven players eligible for the supplemental draft, but he was the only player selected.
