In the NBA’s last two minute report released Tuesday, the league says referees missed a loose ball foul call on Wizards’ center Ian Mahinmi with 33 seconds left in Monday night’s game.
The play, which preceded the questionable technical foul call assessed to Nikola Jokic when he bumped Washington head coach Scott Brooks on the way back to his huddle, involves Mahinmi who shoves Jokic in the back as Denver’s center tumbles under his basket.
“Mahinmi (WAS) dislodges Jokic (DEN) from his rebounding position during the shot attempt,” the report said.
If the call was made, the subsequent technical foul and incident between Jokic and Brooks wouldn’t have taken place.
Jokic said to reporters after the game that he bumped into Brooks after he looked up at the scoreboard trying to catch a glimpse of the replay that showed Mahinmi running into him.
“We scored and I looked at the referee because I thought it was a foul,” Jokic said. “I think I tried to look at the scoreboard and I hit the coach.”
