NBA coaches, including Michael Malone, sound off on election

In recent days coaches throughout the NBA have articulated their thoughts on the newly elected president Donald J. Trump. Steve Kerr of the Warriors and Stan Van Gundy of the Pistons have taken the time to shed light on how they have understood the election thus far and Nuggets head coach Michael Malone added himself to this list today.

Here is an excerpt from Kerr:

“Maybe we should’ve seen it coming over the last 10 years. You look at society, you look at what’s popular. People are getting paid millions of dollars to go on TV and scream at each other, whether it’s in sports or politics or entertainment, and I guess it was only a matter of time before it spilled into politics. But then all of a sudden you’re faced with the reality that the man who’s gonna lead you has routinely used racist, misogynist, insulting words.”

And Van Gundy:

“You don’t get to come out and talk about people like that, and then lead our country and have millions of Americans embrace you. I’m having a hard time being with people. I’m going to walk into this arena tonight and realize that — especially in this state — most of these people voted for the guy. Like, (expletive), I don’t have any respect for that. I don’t.”

Today was the first time that head coach Michael Malone had talked to the Denver media since election day and I asked him on his thoughts. While he did not dive too deep into the politics he did have one very particular theme. The way President-Elect Donald Trump views women.

FOOTNOTES

Malone confirmed today that all three of Will Barton, Darrell Arthur and Wilson Chandler will be out against the Golden State Warriors.

Jamal Murray should continue to see an increase of minutes with Barton still sidelined with a sprained ankle and Gary Harris still on a minute restriction.  The rookie had 10 points against the Grizzlies with seven of them coming in the final quarter.

Arthur has now missed three consecutive games after playing only 15 minutes combined in the two games prior. Chandler will now miss his second game after experiencing tightness in his hamstring and he is still day-to-day. Expect bigger dosages of Kenneth Faried and possibly extended minutes for Juancho Hernangomez in unison with Danilo Gallinari at the power forward position to make up for the losses of Arthur and Chandler.
