MVP Nikola Jokic, Serbia lock up spot in Rio while Danilo Gallinari, Italy comes up short

Nikola Jokic and Serbia clinched a spot in the Rio Olympics with a 108-77 win over Puerto Rico in the final of their Olympic Qualifying Tournament.

Jokic, who’s not with the Nuggets at Summer League this week in Las Vegas, scored 26 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, recorded 6 assists and was named MVP of the tournament. His teammate Bogdan Bogdanovic also paced Serbia with 26 points and 8 assists. The Rio Olympics begin in just under one month.

In the other Olympic qualifier involving Nuggets players, Italy and Danilo Gallinari came up short in overtime against Croatia and will not be joining Serbia in Rio.

Gallinari scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in just over 25 minutes but fouled out with a couple minutes remaining in regulation. Croatia beat Italy 84-78 behind 26 points from Bojan Bogdanovich and 18 points and 13 rebounds from Dario Saric.
