College football season is just around the corner, which officially means it’s time for preseason watch lists. While Colorado State is not receiving a ton of preseason recognition after going 3-9 in 2018, a couple of Rams have garnered some attention.
Earlier in July, junior punter Ryan Stonehouse was tabbed a preseason second-team All-American by Sporting News. Stonehouse led the Mountain West with an average of 48.3 yards per punt last season, earning him second-team All-America honors from Sporting News and a first-team All-Mountain West selection.
Along with Stonehouse, fullback Adam Prentice was announced as a nominee for the AFCA Good Works Team. And most recently, Cameron Butler and Trey McBride were named to the John Mackey Award watch list, which is annually presented to the nation’s top tight end.
Butler, a junior, totalled 29 receptions for 312 yards in 2018. In his collegiate career, the athletic tight end has played in 25 games and made 17 starts.
McBride played in 12 games as a true freshman last season, finishing with seven receptions for 89 yards. In CSU’s September visit to Florida, McBride found the end zone with a 48-yard touchdown reception.
The Mackey Award has been presented since 2000 to the most outstanding college tight end, as chosen by a vote of the award’s selection committee. The winner will be announced Dec. 11, 2019 and presented as part of The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet show on ESPNU.
