The Mountain West has announced the date of their conference championship game today. The big conference final will take place on Saturday, December 3, 2016 with the kickoff being flexible announced at either 5:30 p.m. or 5:45 p.m. MT. The conference also announced that the game will be televised by ESPN or ESPN 2 (like the timing of the game the broadcast is also kept flexible).
The big game will take place on the home field of the conference finalist with the highest ranking from the College Football Playoff Selection Committee. The 2015 final was played at Qualcomm Stadium with West Division champions San Diego State hosting Mountain winners Air Force. Interestingly enough, neither team was ranked by the College Football Rankings Committee in what ended up being a down year for the conference. The Aztecs beat the Falcons in a close 27-24 victory.
Ram fans will be hoping to attend the game in Fort Collins on December 3rd, but for now, all we can do is circle the date on the calendar and see how the conference schedule unfolds.
All 12 Mountain West teams will play an eight-game regular season conference schedule which will largely determine the division winners. The Aztecs went 8-0 on their way to a conference championship in 2015 in inner-conference play.
CSU’s schedule has already been announced. The Rams first conference game comes in week five (October 1st) with the Rams hosting Wyoming.
