Moby Madness: The best time of the year for Rams fans

Football’s in full swing, and basketball season just tipped off; it’s the best time of the year for Colorado State Athletics fans.

Tonight, CSU Men’s Basketball (1-0) faces Loyola Miramont (1-1) inside Moby Arena as the first Rams home game of the 2015-16 season. Colorado State has won 34 consecutive home openers dating back to 1980; so why wouldn’t you want to attend?

CSU’s players surely want you to attend, Rams fans; when Moby is packed to the gills, it’s a sensational homecourt advantage. So, dig for that giant foam finger, that massive cut-out head of Miley Cyrus and whatever other “lucky” Rams gear you packed away back in March.

Moby Madness has helped Colorado State to wins in recent years, including the incredible 27-game winning streak from 2011-13. Currently, the team’s on a seven-game regular season win streak, with last year’s NIT loss to South Dakota State snapping the overall streak.

But, the sad truth is this: Moby Madness is a term usually reserved for the second half of the season, after winter break is over and students have returned to campus.

Why?

What’s better than heading down the street to the recently improved Moby Arena to cheer on the hometown Rams? Games are affordable – starting at $10, free for students – and there are a multitude of mini-plans, too. Buy tickets online here.

Seemingly every season, Moby Arena sits ¼ full for a majority of the team’s non-conference games.

So, this is a challenge to Rams fans, young and old: Can you fill Moby from the start and consistently do so throughout the season?

Don’t wait for Sunday, Dec. 6 when the rival Colorado Buffaloes come to Fort Collins, start tonight and see if Emmanuel Omogbo can continue his sensational play from Game One (11 points, 9 rebounds). Go tonight and see John Gillon lead the Rams up the court and drive the lane like a man on fire, or to see Gian Clavell make plays with his athleticism. Go tonight and witness the dynamic depth this team possesses.

Go to Moby tonight and keep an eye on head coach Larry Eustachy, whose temper tantrums – aimed at both referees and his players, alike – are worth the price of admission alone.

Go to The Whale tonight and every home game, create that Moby Madness which shakes the old building’s ribs and watch your Rams win much more than they lose.

Tonight’s home opener tips off at 7 p.m. MT at Moby Arena. Get there early and have fun, Ram nation.
