Mikko Rantanen still not on skates

A quick medical update from Avalanche practice here in Centennial:

  • Mikko Rantanen is not on the ice. That’s obviously not good news. We’ll have more of an update from Jared Bednar after practice.
  • UPDATE: While Rantanen won’t play Wednesday against Vegas, Bednar still indicated he’s day-to-day. Not sure how realistic that really is, as anytime a guy can’t practice at all, it usually takes a few more days after that to get back into a game.
  • Gabe Landeskog is on the ice. That’s good news, although the captain is wearing the dreaded orange non-contact jersey. He is taking part in most all drills, though, stickhandling some pucks and taking shots. He has not taken part in some of the heavier contact drills, though.
  • UPDATE: Landeskog is “feeling better every day”, Bednar said, and he almost hinted that he’s in day-to-day mode.
  • Matt Nieto is, voila, back on the ice and not only that, in a regular jersey. It would seem possible, therefore, he might play Wednesday night against Vegas.
  • UPDATE: Nieto will play tomorrow. He’s excited to be back. He suffered a broken bone in his foot, when a puck hit him pretty much the only place it could for it to injure his foot, as he wears “shot blocker” protective shields around his skates.
  • Vladislav Kamenev made a brief pre-practice appearance.
  • UPDATE: Kamenev won’t play again this season unless the Avs go on a long, long playoff run.
  • Mark Barberio is back, and in a regular sweater.
  • UPDATE: Bednar isn’t sure whether he’ll play Barbs tomorrow yet or not. He’s still deciding on the lineup.
  • Philipp Grubauer, I’m hearing, will get another start tomorrow.
