It’s officially game week, Colorado State Football fans!

In fact, the Rams are already two practices into game we preparation – Friday and Saturday – as head coach Mike Bobo explained after Saturday morning’s, long and taxing practice.

With Savannah State coming to Fort Collins this Saturday (2 pm MT kickoff), it’s go time. How does Bobo feel about his team this close to kickoff?

“You just never know what you have until you get on the field as far as how they’re going to play under pressure,” he said Saturday.

“I believe we’re close to being ready,” Bobo continued later in the interview. “Basically, what I told them was ‘We’re getting into game week. This is our second day of prep for Savannah State. We’ve got to hone in on the little things.’”

Football may be played on a 100-yard field, but it’s a game of inches. Completing a pass is good, but leading a receiver into open space is better. Making a sound tackle is nice, but stuffing a running back for a loss of yards is ideal, especially when everyone follows their assignment. Fine-tuning is in order, which is what they’ll work on Starting Tuesday.

“But, I feel good how they’ve worked, I feel good how they love each other,” he said. “They’re going to play hard for each other. You want to win every game but you never know what’s going to happen.”

Team chemistry – and even love for one another – is important for teams who want to win, who want to be champions, as these Rams have consistently said throughout fall camp.

“Just because we work hard, it doesn’t guarantee we’re going to win the championship,” Bobo said of his message to the team post-practice Saturday. “It puts us in position where we know we’ve done everything we possibly can to win on Saturdays. Now, we’ve got to go do it. And that’s what we’re preaching every day.

“You’ve got to earn the right to win on Saturdays.”

Colorado State is going to try to do just that this weekend. Don’t forget, it’s an “Orange Out” for Ag Day, so make sure to wear your pumpkin and alfalfa when you head down to Sonny Lubick Field at Hughes Stadium.
