Happy March Madness, Ram Nation!
OK, so we’re not talking about the “Big Dance” as of yet, but the Mountain West Tournament constitutes some March Madness, especially if Colorado State Rams women’s basketball can continue their winning and earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament.
The women get their MW Tourney going today as they face the San Diego State Aztecs at 1 p.m. MT. The game can be seen here, on the MW Network. The game will also be broadcast on the radio on 1410 KIIX.
SDSU earned a trip to the second round to play CSU by defeating Wyoming 62-49 last night. The Rams, ranked No. 22/23 in the nation, went an amazing 28-1 overall and a perfect 18-0 in-conference.
Point guard Ellen Nystrom was named MW Player of the Year recently, averaging 10.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 5.4 assists per contest. She also found a way onto the conference’s all-defensive team as she’s certainly a player to watch today for the green and gold.
For the Aztecs, guard McKynzie Fort has been playing well as of late, averaging a team-high 14.5 points per game including her season-high 17 versus Wyoming last night.
CSU has run off six straight wins over San Diego State, including a 60-57 win over the Aztecs in California and a 70-54 victory in Moby Arena this season.
Currently, ESPN and College Sports Madness have the Rams as a No. 12 seed, meaning they need at least a win or two in the tournament to make it into the “Big Dance.” Follow along today online at 1 p.m. MT.
