DENVER – Diane Lopez and her boyfriend Joe Duran are headed to the Bay Area next week for an all-expenses-paid trip to Super Bowl 50, thanks to the Denver Broncos and Bud Light.

The Bud Light “Heads and Tails” promotion took place at Sports Authority Field at Mile High on Saturday afternoon. Approximately 500 contestants selected by local radio stations came to the south side of the stadium to take place in the competition. The rules were simple, stand on one side of the rope for heads, stand on the other for tails, two-time Denver Broncos Super Bowl champion Tyrone Braxton flipped the official coin of Super Bowl 50 and if your side came up you got to stay.

In a shocking turn of events, tails came up the first five times, thinning the crowd quickly and efficiently before returning to it’s usual 50/50 odds. After a couple more flips, it came down to two contestants, both standing on the “heads” side of things. One chose to stand her ground and Diane chose to trek back over to the tails side, a decision she would not regret.

Lopez, raised in Colorado, has been a life-long Broncos fan, “I’m going to the Super Bowl,” she exclaimed.

Much to the dismay of their friends who asked, “Why are you going? You guys can’t win,” Lopez and Duran left the Motorcycle Expo at the National Western Complex to come to the event. Even Lopez’ son asked, “What are you wasting your time for?” But, they had the last laugh, calling everyone to tell them, “I freaking won!”

Now they hope to change that “I” to “we” when they call those same friends and family back on the evening of Feb. 7.
