Colorado State football has been blessed by legendary coach Sonny Lubick, who continues to help shape and mold leaders with his class for students as well as what he’s doing to mentor coaches.

This Friday evening, Lubick will speak to high school coaches from all across the state as they descend on the Fort Collins.

The coaches clinic begins on Friday morning; Geoff Martzen begins with recruiting, coordinators Will Friend and Marty English speak and then Rick Logo will speak defensive line before Bryan Applewhite speaks on running backs. After meetings with position groups and a dinner break, Lubick will speak for 75 minutes about “Building a Program Through Leadership.”

Lubick knows a thing or two about building a program and leading it to glory; he went 109-73 overall as a head coach, with nine bowl appearances and four conference Coach of the Year awards. His impact has been so long lasting, the school named it “Sonny Lubick Field” at Hughes Stadium in 2003, while he was still coaching.

Last week, an anonymous donor gave $20 million to secure the on-campus stadium remains “Sonny Lubick Field” for the next 30 years because in this town, he’s royalty.

After Lubick speaks, the coaches breakdown for their “Buzz sessions” to end the first night of the coaches clinic.

On Saturday, football team pastor Johnny Square kicks things off before four local high school coaches — Harrison Chisum, Chris Jones, Rod Sherman and Tony Manfredi — speak on building leadership at the high school level. Then, to wrap things up, the coaches attend position meetings and Colorado State’s practice. The clinic costs $40 and can be signed up for here.

CSU’s current head coach Mike Bobo has done much in terms of coaches clinics and helping local football programs and players develop.

In June (5-7) there are team camps, then Bobo puts on a youth camp (June 8-9) for kids in the 3rd-8th grades, and finally a specialist camp on July 21 of this year. Get all the information here.
