Laying the Wood: Arenado goes oppo to put the Rox on top

The Colorado Rockies came into the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s contest against the New York Mets trailing 2-0. They left the sixth inning of Tuesday night’s contest against the New York Mets with a 3-2 lead. They could have gotten more out of the frame and the game would do-si-do a bit before a dramatic walk-off single from Nolan Arenado in the bottom of the ninth, but it was the third baseman’s sixth-inning blast that single-handedly turned a deficit into a lead and, eventually, a victory

The Mets would later tie the game and take the lead but some clutch hitting from Carlos Gonzalez, and one more from Arenado on a single to win it late, gave the Rockies a much-needed win. Colorado’s All-Star third baseman has hit .393/.460/.750 in high leverage situations this season and is batting .429 with two outs and runners in scoring position.

Arenado was named the National League Player of the Month for July after driving in 30 runs in the month. He leads all of baseball with 95 RBI. Overall, he is now hitting .315/.362/.594 with 24 home runs. As long as the Rockies remain in the postseason picture, Arenado will remain in MVP consideration.
