Jon Gray exits game with undisclosed issue

Colorado Rockies ace Jon Gray exited today’s spring training game against the San Francisco Giants in the top of the third with an undisclosed issue.

Gray had given up five runs on seven consecutive hits in the inning before calling for trainer Scott Gehret and apparently taking himself out of the game. Before that, he was sitting on 96 mph and touching 98 mph with the fastball. He had set down the first seven batters with relative ease before the troubles started.

Gray had been pitching well this spring coming into today’s game, but left it with an ERA that ballooned up to 4.11. He didn’t appear to be favoring any one body part, which is good news, and the flu has been bothering the club lately, so it’s possible that there is no injury and that the righty simply wasn’t feeling well today. This could be a big deal or no deal at all.

More as this develops.
