John Elway opened the day two post draft press conference proclaiming that they had selected a player that could compete for a starting job on day one. Elway said, “Ty Sambrailo will come in and compete for the right tackle position right away.” Elway added, “He is versatile and can play all of the spots. He’s smart and in the end, he’s a tough guy.” Sambrailo was selected in the second round, 59th overall in the NFL draft.
Kubiak and Elway both gushed about Sambrailo’s athleticism and coach Kubiak said that the CSU stand out would “Come in and compete on the right side.” He went on to say, “We think he’s a quick study too. We don’t see a big transition for him from a mental standpoint.”
The new head coach of the Denver Broncos was just as excited about new Broncos tight end Jeff Heuerman who was selected 92nd overall in the third round. He told us, “The guy’s a leader and was a leader on a national championship football team.” Kubiak who admitted that he had done a lot of homework on the tight end emphatically added, “I love his passion, I love the way he plays, and he’s a very smart player.”
A similar theme resides within all three draft picks so far. They have all been called tough, smart, and all seem to play with a chip on their shoulder. John Elway ended last season saying that he wished his team went out kicking and screaming, so naturally he opened the 2015 season by drafting players who will do just that.
