Joel Scott is coming home.
Following an impressive four-year run at Black Hills State, the 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward from Monument, Colo. will finish his collegiate career at Colorado State. The Lewis-Palmer High School graduate committed to the Rams Sunday morning after visiting campus over the weekend.
Scott comes to CSU with 116 games and 3,826 minutes of previous experience. Of those 116 appearances for the Yellowjackets, 114 were starts, so he’s about as seasoned as a transfer player can get. He’ll have one year of eligibility to play in Fort Collins.
Coming off of a season in which he averaged 23 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, Scott was named the 2023 D2CCA national player of the year. His complete list of accolades from over the years would take about five minutes to list out loud though. His 2,471 career points makes him one of the top scorers in in the history of NCAA Division II men’s basketball. Not to mention that he’s a two-time NABC Division II All-American coming off of back-to-back Final Four runs.
Much like Patrick Cartier (Hillsdale College) and Chandler Jacobs (Dallas Baptist University) before him, Scott has an opportunity to prove that his game translates in Division I after dominating in Division II. Paired next to Cartier, and also factoring in a healthy Kyle Evans, the Rams will have one of the more intriguing frontcourts in the Mountain West.
