Jasen Oden Jr. came to Colorado State from Buffalo, NY, as a promising defensive back, primarily playing safety. After two seasons in the Rams secondary, Oden moved to the backfield, where he played running back for his final two seasons. Oden’s transition to running back was smooth, and his abilities both in the run game, and as a pass-blocker, will make him a viable NFL prospect.

After missing the official Colorado State Pro Day on Mar. 9 due to nagging injuries from the season, Oden held his own Pro Day last Wednesday Apr. 6.  Oden’s results were the following:

40-yard-dash: 4.54.

L drill : 7.18 sec.

Shuttle: 4.4 sec.

Vertical Leap: 33.5 in.

Broad Jump: 9.9 ft.

Bench Reps: 17

In 2015, Oden played in 12 games for the Rams, rushing for 746 yards and six touchdowns. What was impressive was Oden’s average of 4.8 yards per-carry over 154 carries. For a running back to average that kind of yardage, over that many carries, is extremely impressive at the Division I  level.

Oden’s most impressive start came on the road at the University of Texas El Paso on Sept. 26, when Oden carried the ball 30 times for 148 yards and one touchdown. Both the attempts and yardage were career-highs for the former defensive back.

Oden was not invited to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine or any postseason showcase games, but that does not mean J.O. does not have a shot to make it at the next level. Oden was a consistent feature back in the Colorado State offense, and his physicality suits the NFL.

Ultimately Oden will have to work his tail off to make it to the next level. His results during Pro Day are a testament to the work he has been putting in, and that is what will impress scouts moving forward. Ram fans will all be rooting for J.O. to be the next former Ram to shine on Sundays.
