Been chatting some with the agent for Jarome Iginla, the legendary Don Meehan.
While Meehan doesn’t know what will happen yet, he’s “hoping” Avs GM Joe Sakic will be able to move him by the 1 p.m. (MST) trade deadline. Let me translate more of that: An Iginla trade still could be in the works. I believe Meehan is working the phones hard on behalf of his longtime client. If there is one player Meehan is going to work just a little extra harder for, it’s Iginla.
We went over the realistic odds of Iginla moving in a blog yesterday.
Regardless, folks, don’t expect much in the way of a return for No. 12., even if a deal happens. Rogers Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos doesn’t think an Iginla makes sense for a younger team, such as Edmonton or Calgary, because his presence would be too much of a distraction/intimidation in the room.
Gotta disagree with Kipper on that one. Jarome isn’t one to puff his ego around the room. He’s as likely to hang out with the No. 12 forward as the top center.
Regarding Matt Duchene and Gabe Landeskog, it’s still quiet. But that doesn’t mean it will stay that way.
