Jarome Iginla found a new home after all: Los Angeles.
The 39-year-old right wing has been traded by the Avalanche to the L.A. Kings, where he will play for a former coach of his, Darryl Sutter, and try to help the Kings make the playoffs.
The Avs received a conditional draft choice. More details on that soon.
The Kings have a history of rejuvenating the careers of supposedly washed up players. Jeff Carter was supposed to be on the downside, and he’s helped them win two Stanley Cups. Marian Gaborik was supposed to be done, but he’s helped them greatly and even Vinny Lecavalier did some good things last year.
If any coach can get something out of Iginla still, it’s probably Sutter. They went to the Stanley Cup Finals together in 2004 in Calgary, and Sutter has always considered Iginla a quality guy.
When L.A. traded Dwight King to Montreal earlier in the day, it freed up a roster spot for Iginla to fill.
