Jake "The Snake" Plummer visits Broncos practice Wednesday

Jake “The Snake” Plummer was a joy to behold as an NFL fan.

He was one of those old fashioned gun-slingers and he was a slithery runner, too. Plummer would throw the ball sidearm, submarine, shovel pass; whatever it took to complete passes.

Whatever it took to win.

Plummer was the quarterback of the Denver Broncos from 2003-2006, with Mike Shanahan as head coach and none other than Gary Kubiak calling the plays. In that wonderful West Coast offense, Plummer was perfect; his mobile ability helped him move with ease on rollouts and keep the ball for gains on the ground when needed.

The Broncos went 35-19 with Plummer under center, a 72.2 winning percentage. Incredibly, the team is 44-10 (81.5 percent) with Peyton Manning at QB.

Today, Plummer returned to the Mile High City and was seen smiling and chatting it up with quarterbacks Manning and Brock Osweiler during Denver’s practice.

Did Jake “The Snake” just rollout and throw a pass before this picture was taken, in his plaid shirt and sunglasses to boot? No word on that, but it seems that way with Rick Dennison grinning in the background and Jake swaggering towards Manning.

Nowadays, Plummer enjoys playing professional handball, even hosting the “Plummer Family Helluva Time Handball Tournament” in 2010-present. After retiring from the NFL, he moved back to his native Idaho and in 2012 he moved back to Colorado, residing in Boulder.

Beyond Plummer showing up in Denver today, the Broncos are honoring Pat Bowlen as the owner is inducted into the team’s Ring of Fame at halftime. Many Ring of Famers will be in attendance among the sellout crowd.
