Isaiah Lewis: "I love it here... I'm excited to be a part of The Rise"

BOULDER – Isaiah Lewis is one of the more underrated players in the Colorado Buffaloes 2017 recruiting class. With the many departures of the Colorado secondary, Lewis might make an impact earlier than one may expect.

One of the greatest assets that Lewis possesses is his versatility. The six-foot-flat, 196-pounder is willing to play any of the defensive back positions but his best chance to play early seems to be at safety.

“I definitely love playing cornerback and safety,” Lewis remarked. “When the coaches recruited, coach (Charles) Clark and coach (Joe) Tumpkin, they wanted me to play safety. But after speaking with coach (ShaDon) Brown, I could be playing a little bit of nickel corner but we’ll see when spring ball comes around to see where I get placed.”

The three-star early enrollee is from Granite Bay High School in Sacramento, CA. He had a very short recruitment because he figured out early that CU would be the school for him.

“Obviously I loved the environment,” Lewis explained. “I loved the coaches. Going to the Utah game, that was amazing being the first game that it’s been sold out for awhile so the environment in the stadium was awesome. Also, I got to meet a lot of the players and the guys I’ll be playing with next year and they’re all great guys which made me more excited to come up and start playing.”

Being an early commit, Lewis took it upon some to recruit other players to Boulder and loves the fact that he’s a part of one of the best CU recruiting classes in quite awhile.

“It’s amazing,” Lewis said. “I’m obviously super excited to be a part of not only the recruiting class but The Rise as we call it. I’m excited to be apart of what Coach Mac is doing and the great things he has planned for us.”

Lewis has been enrolled at CU for a few weeks now so he’s already being accustomed to college football and is really enjoying his start.

“Good, good, I love it here,” Lewis said. I’m excited to be up here early, be rooming with Jaylon (Jackson) and get the weight lifting program going.”

Lewis has big plans at the University of Colorado and he’s probably one of the more intriguing players to watch for in terms of playing in 2017.
