Denver – The Rockies are two wins away from their 1,000th win at home. They’ve been two wins away from the feat since April, 22. Once again they were defeated tonight at Coors Field 5-1, extending their home losing streak to seven games, the longest since 1993.

Walt Weiss wasn’t quite sure what the reason has been for the team’s struggles at home, stating before the game, “there’s nothing we can put our finger on.”  Well, he better figure it out. The formerly First Place Rockies entered their homestand in good position having taken six-of-ten on the road. Now they are battling to stay out of the cellar.

Chris Rusin failed to have a clean inning tonight but up until the sixth inning, there had been no damage done by the Diamondbacks. In the sixth, a single, an intentional walk, a double, a single and a single plated four and that’s all Arizona would need. They tacked on a solo shot from Paul Goldschmidt in the seventh to extend the lead 5-0.

The Rockies offense was abysmal, only reaching second base two times, until the eighth when a leadoff walk by Tony Wolters sparked the club. Wolters, the only Rockie to reach base twice tonight, was moved up by a Mark Reynolds single then came around on a wild pitch.

Sixth inning

The inning where Arizona finally capitalized, then they poured it on.

The Arizona starter went seven-and-a-third inning, allowing only four hits and one walk. He struck out six and made quick work of the Rockies throwing 67 of his 96 pitches for strikes. This resulted in a gamescore of 71. RDLR gave the Rockies not but a chance on Tuesday night.
