After 14 seasons in the Avalanche’s front office and 20 seasons with Kroenke Sports Entertainment, Greg Sherman’s time with the Colorado Avalanche has come to an end. BSN Denver reached out to the Colorado Avalanche for official comment and was told that:

“Greg decided to move on, it was a mutual decision on both sides to part ways.”

Sherman has held a variety of high ranking positions in the Avalanche front office throughout his tenure, and most recently was named Senior Vice President, Business and Team Operations last June. With Joe Sakic and Chris MacFarland seemingly taking over the bulk of player personnel decisions, Sherman was a less visible figure in the Avalanche organization last season. However, he was made a central figure in putting on the 2016 Coors Light NHL Stadium Series game at Coors Field. Sherman also testified on behalf of Semyon Varlamov at his civil trial last winter.

Sherman worked as the club’s Vice President of Business Operations and Assistant General Manager in 2014-15. Sherman served as the team’s General Manager for five years from 2009-2014, and in that time formed the bulk of the Avalanche’s current core roster, drafting Matt Duchene, Tyson Barrie, and Gabriel Landeskog, and trading for Semyon Varlamov and Erik Johnson. Before becoming the team’s General Manager in full, Sherman spent seven years as the club’s Assistant General Manager.

It remains to be seen whether Greg Sherman’s responsibilities will be distributed among the remaining management team or if the Avalanche will make a front office hire.
