Colorado State’s Gian Clavell earned more recognition Tuesday as he was named an All-America Honorable Mention. The senior guard from Puerto Rico joins Bill Green (1963), Lonnie Wright (1965) and Colton Iverson (2013) as the lone Rams to ever be named All-America.

Clavell, who was also named Mountain West Player of the Year, led the league in scoring at better than 20 points per game. But he was more than just a scorer. Clavell ranked in the top 10 in the Mountain West in seven other categories, including minutes played, field goal percentage and rebounding, among others.

CSU’s go-to scorer served as the team’s catalyst for much of the season despite missing the opening nine games of the 2016-17 campaign. Clavell reached double figures in all but one game, at least 20 points in 14 games and at least 30 points in four games.

He ended his career as a Ram ranking 18th on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,062 points. Along with senior forward Emmanuel Omogbo, Clavell led CSU to its first regular season championship game since 2003.

Clavell’s time in green and gold concluded with a second round National Invitational Tournament loss to CSU-Bakersfield.
