If you’ve ever had the pleasure to meet Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins, you know he smiles a lot. The bright, young receiver’s personality is impossible to notice from the first time you meet him. So it comes as no surprise to see Higgins smiling while at Browns OTAs.
Higgins has reason to smile, though, beyond his natural joyous personality, as he’s impressed enough to have already entered the conversation as a starter for the Browns next year.
While the team hasn’t released a formal depth chart yet, ESPN’s Browns reporter Tony Grossi took a shot at it and listed Higgins as the starter in the number two receiver spot. Grossi lists first rounder Corey Coleman will be in the No. 1 role, and veteran Andrew Hawkins will be in the slot.
Though this isn’t a team depth chart, Grossi gives a very cut and dry assessment, showing that there really aren’t many alternatives to Higgins or Coleman at this time.
“Higgins looks smooth as a route-runner and reliable as a pass catcher. Hawkins is now the senior veteran. Gabriel (injury) and Payton (UCLA academic calendar) have missed most of the practices. Louis, a physical specimen, hasn’t made much of an impact. Pryor remains a tantalizing prospect, but is far from finished. He needs to learn to play to his height, among other things.”
After the disappointment of falling in the draft, all the way to the fifth round, being taken by the lowly Browns and being their fifth wideout taken in the draft, things are starting to look up for the former All-American. As any Rams fan knows, what Rashard may lack in explosiveness, he makes up for in reliability. And on a team with few players who can be counted on, he was bound to stand out.
Keep up the good work Rashard, we have our popcorn ready!
