BOULDER – Behind a combined 44 points from George King and Josh Fortune, on 14-of-18 shooting (10-of-12 behind the arc),  the Colorado Buffaloes defeated the Stanford Cardinal by a count of 91-75.

The Buffs shot 49 percent from the field and 68-percent from behind the arc, and turned it up on the other side as well, holding the Cardinal to just 36-percent from the field.

“We hit three of our four numbers that we talk about all the time,” Tad Boyle said after the game.  The only thing we didn’t hit is our turnovers.  We had 15 rather than less than 12.”

Boyle strives, every game, for his team to hold the opponent under 40-percent from the field, out-rebound the opponent by seven, shoot 48 percent from the field and turn the ball over less than 12. Rarely do the Buffs hit all four in a conference game, but you see what happens when they hit three of them. Blowout.

Boyle called it a “great team victory” and it came at a great time for Colorado, as their horse, Josh Scott, was under the weather.

“Josh Scott wasn’t himself tonight,” Boyle explained. “He battled through, he wasn’t feeling well. I could tell at shootaround and pregame meal that something wasn’t right with him. He hasn’t been feeling good or sleeping good.”

While Scott wasn’t held down by the sickness, putting in 14 and 8, but his 4-of-10 from the field was less than what we’re used to.

So King and Fortune came to the rescue.

“It was nice to see Josh Fortune hit a couple and get in a rhythm.  George King shot it well too,” Boyle said.  When both of those guys [Fortune and King] are making threes and shoot 13-19, we’re going to be tough to beat.  And when one guy is down, picking him up is what being a team is all about.”

The Buffaloes put together a wire-to-wire victory on the night, using a 10-0 run in the early-going  to pull away, extending the lead all the way out to 23 and never letting the Cardinal bring the game within  single digits again.

When all was said and done the Buffaloes bagged a comfortable victory and improved to 16-5 on the season and 5-3 in the Pac-12. Depending on what happens in the Pac this weekend, the Buffs could have a chance at nabbing a spot atop the conference.

King and Fortune battled it out all night for this honor but, in the end, it goes to King due to his pure efficiency. The King was 8-of-9 from the field, including a perfect 5-for-5 from downtown on his way for 24 points.
