DENVER — Colorado State secured a big-time commitment for the program on Monday with edge rusher DeAndre Gill announcing he will play for the Rams in 2022.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, the outside linebacker/tight end out of Kentwood High School in Kent, Washington, had quite a bit of interest from Pac-12 programs and was at one point even committed to sign with Chip Kelly at UCLA.
Blessed to take my next step at an amazing program, let’s get to work!1000% COMMITTED!!💚🐏#RamGrit #Committed @CoachJayNorvell @coach_buddha @CoachBanks13 @Lgauthier_ @Adam_Pilapil @CSUFootball pic.twitter.com/dEugUBcSfb

Originally from Stockton, California, playing for the Bruins would have allowed Gill to return near his old stomping grounds. However, after committing last November, Gill never signed in either recruiting period last winter.
In February Gill started to begin posting new offers on Twitter, including from CSU, Eastern Washington, Idaho and Montana State. Then on April 3, Gill posted photos from his visit to Fort Collins.
Since his visit, Gill had been relatively quiet on social media about what he was intending to do this fall. In the end it seems that the experience was enough to convince him to come play in Mountain West country, though.
Like to thank CSU for having us out this weekend, had a lot of fun!@CSUFootball @CSU_Nash @KelliFogt @coach_buddha @CoachBanks13 @CoachJayNorvell pic.twitter.com/dnrklHhQ8p

Gill will join what proved to be a promising group in the trenches during spring ball. On multiple occasions the defensive line was referred to as the strongest unit on the team by the coaching staff. That said, you can never have too many guys that can get after the quarterback, especially when they have a frame like Gill’s as a true freshman.
With the addition of Gill to the 2022 class, the Rams have now been able to sway two different recruits that were initially planning on signing with UCLA. In December the Rams flipped four-star wide receiver Mekhi Fox out of Pasadena High School. They flipped Inglewood High School defensive end Marshon Oxley as well, who was committed to San Diego State before signing with CSU.
Additionally, Gill’s commitment is CSU’s third for the 2022 season since National Signing Day back in February. The most recent was offensive lineman Cameron Cooper, who announced he is transferring over from UTEP. Prior to Cooper, Rex Haynes, a wide receiver from San Diego, Calif., also committed to the Green & Gold.
