The Colorado State Rams have added another major weapon to the arsenal. Armani Winfield, a former four-star recruit out of Lewisville High School (Texas), announced that he will transfer from Baylor to CSU.
A 6-foot-2, 205-pound wide receiver, Winfield was one of the most highly coveted skill players in Texas during the 2022 cycle. As a senior he earned Under Armour All-American status, and he had at least 40 Division 1 offers according to his recruiting profile on 247Sports. Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State and USC were among the impressive group of schools that offered him out of high school.
Winfield initially verbally committed to the University of Texas, so in a different world he might have been playing against the Rams this fall. Obviously, though, he ended up signing with Baylor instead.
As a freshman he played in three games for the Bears, recording once catch for 10 yards in a redshirt season. He then caught seven balls for 90 yards in 2023, including a season-best three catches for 42 yards against the Longhorns.
After entering the transfer portal this spring, Winfield visited Fort Collins in late April before also checking out the University of Wisconsin. In the end, he elected to transfer to CSU, where he will join a wide receiving corps of Tory Horton, Donovan Ollie, Dylan Goffney, etc.
While he may not have a ton of production at the D1 level yet, Winfield is another big, athletic receiving threat for QB Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi. The type of player that can beat you over the top or take a bubble screen 60 yards to the house, he’s certainly a welcomed addition to the offense.
Winfield had 2,678 yards and 26 touchdowns in his high school career. It’ll be fun to see how many yards he can rack up in Jay Norvell’s Air Raid system.
