FORT COLLINS — After Colorado State already picked up a pair of commits for the defensive side on Monday night, the Rams received two more verbals for the 2023 cycle on Tuesday afternoon.

Dante Scott, a 6-foot-2, 195-pound athlete out of Bonita Vista High School in Chula Vista, Calif., was the first to announce his commitment to the Green & Gold.

According to his Twitter page, Scott holds offers from UNLV and Hawaii in the Mountain West. Bucknell, Valparaiso and the University of San Diego have offered as well, though, among others.

In a recent interview with 247Sports, Scott talked about being recruited by Hawaii, where his father and three sisters currently live, and how being close to them again would be cool. He also emphasized the success that wide receivers have had in the Warriors program. But in the end it seems that he was more enamored by what Jay Norvell and Co. are building at CSU, as he committed to the Rams without even visiting the island.

In 8 games played for Bonita Vista HS last season, Scott led the team in receiving yards (581), yards per reception (25.3) and yards per game (72.6), according to MaxPreps. He was also first in receiving touchdowns (10) and totaled the second-most catches (23). His longest touchdown of the season was a 98-yard reception — an example of his blazing speed.

At the collegiate level Scott is expected to play safety.

Not long after Scott posted about his commitment, running back Justin Marshall also joined in on the fun by posting that he too  intends to sign with the Rams.

The 5-foot-11, 175-pound speedster has offers from all over the country, including but not limited to Boston College, Central Michigan, Indiana, Minnesota, Nebraska and Wisconsin, so he’s a pretty impressive pull for the CSU staff — especially when you consider both On3 and 247 projected him to sign with former CSU WR Coach Alvis Whitted in the Big Ten.

Looking at his play-making abilities on film, it’s unsurprising to see why Marshall is such a coveted recruit. His lateral agility is absurd and once he’s in the open field, there’s no catching up to him.

In the 2021-22 season Marshall recorded 41 carries for 440 yards and five touchdowns out of the backfield. He had 43 receptions for 1,088 receiving yards and 16 receiving touchdowns, too. Simply put, he was the entire offense for Merrillville High School.

In addition to being a star for the football program, Marshall also runs sprints for the track and field team. At the 2022 NWI Championships in March, Marshall’s group finished first in the 4×200 relay (1:33:71).

With Scott and Marshall now in the mix, the Rams have managed to secure commitments from nine different states so far. The vast majority, though, have come from the West Coast and Pacific Northwest.

We’ll see how the rest of the 2023 class fills out but the early returns have been encouraging when it comes to establishing recruiting pipelines and landing versatile athletes. Much like the vibes with the program as a whole, the recruiting vision under Norvell seems to be lightyears ahead of the previous regime.

It’s a fun time to be a Ram fan, just sit back and enjoy it.
