Dodgers leap all over Rockies in lopsided affair

Well it was an official shellacking in the first match-up between the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Dodgers Luckily for Rockies fans, these games don’t count.

The 14-2 loss largely came down to a single inning that spun completely out of control, but the Purplers simply never gained momentum on the mound or in the box in this one.

Player of the Game – Cody Thomas

Thomas hit a pair of home runs in three at-bats and drove in three runs, getting right in the middle of an 11-run fifth inning for the Dodgers.

Runner Up – James Pazos

The lefty keeps making his way toward the Opening Day rotation, keeping his Spring ERA at 0.00 after another clean inning.

Stat of the Game – Yency Almonte: 0.1 IP, 6 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 2 HR

There was a lot that went wrong in the fifth that had nothing to do with Almonte, including two pop ups that got lost in the sun and his inherited situation. But still, he got hit hard and with regularity in an outing he will hope to forget by the time he is done with the post-game showers.

Turning Point – Thomas’ 3-run Homer in the 5th

You could argue this one was over before it began or the moment Lambert left the game. But the three-run jack from Thomas against Almonte really opened the floodgates.

Diamond Details

  • Peter Lambert had another solid outing, surrendering a solo home run as his only blemish in two innings. He struck out two, including one on a developing cutter that could become a new weapon for him in 2020
  • Not to be outdone from a relief standpoint, RHP Tyler Kinley recorded his third clean inning of the spring. He has yet to allow a base runner.
  • After an 0-for-2 day, Bret Boswell got right back to boppin’ with a double and a run scored, raising his Spring batting average back up to .615.
  • Chris Rabago had the only RBI hit in the game for Colorado, coming in the 8th inning.
  • Elias Diaz stayed hot with the bat, slicing a triple in the third to bring his Spring batting average to .625. He has not struck out yet this Spring.

Final Thoughts

February baseball is the most meaningless baseball. And it is still technically February.
