Russell Wilson, Sean Payton, and the Denver Broncos lost a heartbreaker to Chase Young, Sam Howell & the Washington Commanders.
Marvin Mims and Jerry Jeudy cooked the Commanders’ defense in the first half. Sam Howell, Terry McLaurin, and the Washington offense immediately answered and pushed Justin Simmons, Alex Singleton & the rest of the Broncos defense to the edge.
In the second half, the offense stalled and the Ron Rivera and the Commanders sealed the win with a last-minute 2-point conversion stop. Join Alexis Perry, Todd Davis, and Ryan Koenigsberg as they break down today’s loss.

Unfortunately, the losing culture has soaked into our roster, and I think it’s going to take more than just Sean Payton and the current core of players to correct what has set in over the past 7 years. As high of hopes as we’ve had for guys like Simmons, Sutton, Jeudy, etc., I think it’s time we let them move on to contenders where they can be more valuable and use those resources to build the team in Sean Payton’s image. Outside of PS2 and maybe a couple others, just about everyone else should be on the table. Russ makes sense to keep as a bridge to a young QB and a stabilizing figure in the locker room, otherwise some new blood without the baggage of the post-SB50 Broncos would be welcome, even if it means we take a step backward for a season or two in order to move forward.
We’ve been told “we’re close” every years since 2015 and each season it’s felt further and further away. It’s time to blow it up and start anew with Sean Payton leading the charge.
Watching Sunday hurts. Seeing them just fall flat on their faces in this game is infuriating. BUT at this point I am embracing this team. If they get the number 1 pick or the number 32 pick in the draft. If we tear it down great. If we turn it around even better. I am determined to have fun this football SZN I don’t wanna be miserable. I’m going to give Sean Payton the same amount of leash as I gave Russ last year. Todd keep breaking down the defense and we will all be scholars.
I decided to not post this last week in hopes that it was week one jitters but unfortunately we are 0-2.
In past seasons I’ve believed we’ve had good teams that have underpeformed. This is the first year where it feels like we just do not have the players. At what point do we need to be honest with ourselves and say we don’t have the guys. For example, Courtland is no longer a young promising WR. He is who he is. And who he is, is a guy who get’s 4 catches for 32 yards and can make a nice deep ball play every once in a while. On the defense have have pat and Justin. But 2 players a defense does not make. I agree with what Todd said last week, at some point players have to make plays. But what if you don’t have players that can make plays?
Time to blow it up and start over with Sean and Walmart.
My boys! Our season is not over yet. But what happened with our oline after the first quarter? They where letting Washingtons dline in Russ’s face all game. I get it the pick was his fault but the fumble should have been called back and watching his reaction on the play he looked like he thought it was going to come back, but all these couch qbs and uncle Rico’s need to stop watching these games with there blinders on. Russ had over 300 yards total and 3tds and is on track to have over 40 tds this season if he keeps his current projection. What happened to our defense? Bend don’t break? More like bend until snap. You all did the blame game I personally agree with RK and blame the coach who started this loosing culture in this great organization VJ. He did nothing when it comes to adjusting to the other teams offense. I get players love him as a coach but I’m tired of him letting the other teams offenses beat us with these short underneath passes and not doing anything to fix it. This is also what makes it so we can not get the defense off the field until the other team gets points. Something with the defense has to change! Also with the k jack issues why is it the defensive players to take care of the other team to a point the other team’s receivers don’t have to take care of themselves? His job is to make sure the other team doesn’t score and get mad at Zac. After rewatching the hit it definitely looks like that was his shoulder that got him. Also why are we being flagged for these bad calls when we can’t get legit calls that actually happen. And yea I know we shouldn’t let the refs decide a game but unfortunately it’s happening. Now that I’m done with the negativity something positive, I will say that Sean Payton’s offense brings me hope. People need to open there eyes because we finally scored more then 30 points! Also TODD THE GREAT needs to show these guys how to rap up and stop this arm talking. You guys always do a great job and sorry for the long rant. I promise when we win I won’t rant like this. Also most importantly GO BRONCOS!!!!!
The Broncos have changed owners, GM, head coach, and QB over the past 7 years and yet the product seems the same. How difficult is it to shake this losing culture? Todd since you’ve been part of the good and the bad, how difficult is it for players to keep a positive headspace through these adversities and not slip into thinking “here we go again”? Go Broncos! Go DNVR!
So alot of blame for this loss is being thrown at Russ, and for the life of me I just don’t understand why. Russ was not perfect or even close to it this game, but he and the offense played good enough to win. Week in and week out since Russ got here all I hear is can we score more than 16pts, if we just averaged 18pts we would have won 11 games last year with this defense. Well Russ and the offense gave you 33 and we still lost. During the blame game, Alexis you said that you blame Russ given that fumble. If a fumble on the opponents side of midfield up 21-3 is such an unforgivable mistake that completely derails a game then we have MUCH bigger problems on our hands. Im with RK this was not a Russ loss, this falls on the defense. All that being said we will beat the Dolphins this upcoming week to get back to 1-2! Just got a weird gut feeling about it. Might just be gas, but I’m airing on the side of optimism for now 😂
I feel sick to my stomach. Tears and nausea are my existence now. I guess Sean Payton too needs to relearn how to win. If we can get out to sizable leads, maybe we resort to playing not to lose football from there. Run the ball and have Russ only throw quick game passes and bootlegs. Yesterday was that quicksand phenomenon Shane Falco spoke of in The Replacements. All too real for us BroncoLanders.
Sean Payton is a very smart football coach. He knew this team wasn’t quite ready so he set up some fall guys. The offense doesn’t perform? Everyone blames Russ. Defense doesn’t perform? Everyone knew VJ wasn’t the guy. Everything works? Payton is so smart and turned the team around. Sean Payton calculated this out and it was actually pretty genius. We just lost to 2 of the worst franchises in the league and I can’t help feel but the season is lost already and we’re not lucky enough to get the #1 pick. Long tough road ahead.
Hey guys
Gene Steratore tweeted the refs should’ve called the DPI on the 2 point conversion. Refs also missed the face mask on Russ. Can the league fine itself?
We lost 2 games by combined total of 3 points, but we lost them at home. Starting 0-2 against the Raiders and Commander at home basically means the season is over, but it’s Sean’s first season as this teams HC. So even is this year is a wash, we’ll learn something about the players that we have so this year should be all about focusing on our young players. I don’t think we can trade Russ, but it’s time to get rid of all our veterans and shoot for a top draft pick. Gregory, Allen, McGlinchy, Simmons, etc all need to go for draft picks. Next 3-5 years of Russ is going to be a long drawn out rebuild, settle in boys and girls, it’s going to be ugly.
