Despite being a limited participant in practice, it would be a surprise if Russell Wilson didn't play on Sunday

LONDON — For weeks, Nathaniel Hackett has been adamant that Russell Wilson has and will do everything in his power to play, despite dealing with multiple injuries.

He wasn’t kidding.

On the team’s eight-hour flight from Denver to London, the Broncos’ franchise quarterback worked on his body for half the flight.

“I don’t really get jet lagged too often. I don’t really—I’ve traveled enough to kind of get my system down,” Wilson said on Wednesday, talking about how his body handled the long journey. “For me, I was on the plane, the first two hours—what is it, an eight hour flight? The first two hours, I was watching film. Watching all of the cutups and everything else. And then, the next four hours I was doing treatment of the plane. I was walking up and down the aisles. Everyone was knocked out. I was doing high knees and working on my legs and everything else, making sure I’m ready to rock. So that was good. And the last two hours—the last hour of that I fell asleep for one hour and I watched the film for the rest.”

For only the second time in his career, Wilson was held out due to an injury for Sunday’s game against the Jets. Wilson suffered a Grade 2 hamstring strain against the Chargers. Nathaniel Hackett made the call 24 hours before the Jets game to allow his body more time to heal.

However, minutes after losing to the Jets 16-9, the head coach said Wilson was trending in the right direction to play against the Jaguars on Sunday. Hackett repeated that sentiment on Monday. And, once again, stood by that belief on Wednesday, following the team’s first practice in London.

Despite being listed as a limited participant for Wednesday’s practice, Hackett said Wilson “did quite a bit” in practice. As for what Wilson needs to show Hackett during the week in order to get the green light to play, the head coach said Russell needs to be able to move around enough to “protect himself” in a game.

“Just want to be sure that when he gets out there, that he can escape and be able to move,” Hackett added.

Wilson, on the other hand, doesn’t need to see anything else from himself in order to play against the Jaguars.

“I feel great. Ready to roll,” No. 3 said after Wednesday’s practice, giving no indication he won’t play. “Super locked in and hopefully get a big win in London. Obviously, this would be a key game for us. A really good football team we’re playing. I think both of our records don’t represent who we are.”

When asked if he could play without any limitations right now, Wilson doubled down.

“Yeah. I feel great,” he added. “I’ll be ready to rock.”

In fact, Wilson stated even last week he “was ready to roll” against the Jets.

“I always want to play. I always want to be out there with my teammates,” Wilson said. “I love being out there playing.”

The Broncos held Wilson back from playing against the Jets to allow his hamstring more time to heal. It doesn’t appear that will be the case this week. Expect Russell Wilson to face-off against Trevor Lawrence in London on Sunday.
