Derrick White takes home Pac-12 honors

BOULDER – Colorado Buffaloes senior guard Derrick White has been named to the 2017 All-Pac-12 Conference First Team and  All-Defensive Team.

White, one of 10 members of the first team, was voted on by league coaches. He became one of four Buffs to take home the honor.

This season White has led Colorado with 17.0 points, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game while shooting a slick 51 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free throw line. He is the second-leading scorer in the Pac-12 during league play at 18.5 a contest.

White the only player in the Pac-12 to rank among the league’s top 10 in scoring, assists and blocks was fourth in points, sixth in assists and seventh and blocks.

His remarkable 45 blocks are the most by a guard in team history and he is the Pac-12’s top shot blocking guard this season.

Other league honors saw  Oregon junior forward Dillon Brooks be named Men’s Basketball Player of the Year. While UCLA guard Lonzo Ball was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. Brooks’ teammate junior forward Jordan Bell was selected as the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year and USC sophomore forward Chimezie Metu was tabbed Pac-12 Most Improved Player of the Year. Arizona coach Sean Miller claimed the John R. Wooden Coach of the Year honor.
