Denver Nuggets sign shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick to 10-day contract

The corresponding move to the  Jan. 7th release of swingman Kostas Papanikolaou is nearing completion, as it was reported this morning that the Nuggets are close to signing shooting guard Sean Kilpatrick to a 10-day contract.

The Denver Nuggets plan to sign guard Sean Kilpatrick of D-League Delaware on a 10-day contract, league sources tell Yahoo Sports.

After spending training camp with the New Orleans Pelicans earlier this year, Kilpatrick opted for the NBA D-League instead of a more lucrative offer overseas. In 26 games with the Delaware 87ers this season, Kilpatrick averaged 27.1 points per game on 47 percent shooting and converted on 44.5 percent of his 3-point attempts.

Last season, the 6-foot-4-inch Kilpatrick appeared in four games for the Minnesota Timberwolves and averaged 5.5 points per game.

Kilpatrick has always been a scorer going back to his days at the University of Cincinnati, where he racked up more than 2,000 points over his four years there. The 26-year-old is a gifted shot-maker and someone who can stretch the defense out to the 3-point line, something Denver has lacked over the past two seasons. His defense still needs work, but his offensive potential is likely what attracted the Nuggets to him in the first place.

If you're curious, Kilpatrickwill make $49,709.35 for his 10-day deal with Denver.

That's roughly double his D-League salary.

Teams can sign a player to as many as two 10-day contacts before either signing him for the rest of the season or releasing him.
