A morning press conference in June has Nuggets brass, media, and fans hopeful for changes at Pepsi Center. They introduced their new head coach that should be able to bring a style that will better suit the Nuggets to be able to win in the playoffs.
The above statement could be referring to the Nuggets introducing Michael Malone as their newest head coach, but it was also fitting two years ago when they did the same for Brian Shaw.
Josh Kroenke opened the press conference stressing the importance of defensive efficiency and that Michael Malone was the right guy for the job. Then it was Connelly’s or as Malone affectionately called him “Timmy” turn to talk up his newest hire, hoping he wont share the same fate as his predecessor.
Malone’s opening statement urged fans and pundits alike not to label him. He’s known as a “slow it down, walk the ball up the floor” kind of guy, but Malone said he’s not stuck in his ways and will use any built in advantage at his disposal. “We will be a team that defends, rebounds, and runs with purpose.”

As for the team Malone is taking over, he says everyone will have a clean slate. “It isn’t fair to hold something against someone for something that didn’t happen on my watch,” Malone said “I need to get to know them, you cant coach 15 guys the same way. Do you like to win or do you hate to lose? Hopefully in a couple of months, we’ll have a locker room full of players that hate to lose.”
Just as it did two years ago when the Nuggets introduced Brian Shaw, everything Malone said in his opening presser sounds phenomenal. It’s now up to Connelly and Kroenke to fill that locker room with players that hate to lose.
