The Denver Broncos will square off against the San Diego Chargers for the second time in three weeks Sunday afternoon in the Mile High City and the team will look a bit different than the last time the two faced off.
Running back C.J. Anderson is set to miss the better portion of the 2016 campaign after undergoing surgery on a torn meniscus he suffered late in the first quarter against the Houston Texans. On Saturday morning, the team officially placed Anderson on injured reserve and promoted Juwan Thompson to the 53-man roster.
It will be rookie running back Devontae Booker, though, who will run the show in the Broncos’ backfield.
“We will find out, but certainly we think so. That’s why he’s here,” Offensive Coordinator Rick Dennison told media when asked if Booker was ready. “We drafted him pretty early in the draft. Each of our backs we consider durable enough to carry the load. We’re going to do what we do best and see what happens.”
Anderson is the only Bronco officially listed as out for the 2:05 MST start.
Veteran linebacker DeMarcus Ware, was seen on the practice field this week for the first time since the injury occurred on Sept. 18th. Ware seems optimistic about playing Sunday but is not ready to commit just yet.
“It’s a day-to-day process,” Ware said. “Don’t know if I’m going to play this week or if I’m going to play next week. But if it progresses like it should, I’ll be out there.”
Also on defense, Brandon Marshall practiced only once this week and was limited on Friday due to a hamstring injury suffered during the Monday-night victory. Even though Marshall saw very little practice time, he stated that he would be ready to go—if cleared by team doctors to play.
“I’ve watched film and I’ve seen the looks,” No. 54 said after practice Friday. “We just played them two weeks ago. I think that’s a good thing that will help me out. I’ll be just fine.”
Center Matt Paradis was held out of practice for the entire week while he recovered from a lingering hip injury but has played through this pain before. Head Coach Gary Kubiak did not seem all that concerned about the star offensive lineman missing any time and Paradis should be on the field as the Orange & Blue welcome the Bolts to the Mile High City.
