Denver Broncos' Week 7 practice report: Okung on pace

After being taken to a San Diego hospital following the team’s first divisional loss in 15 games, left tackle Russell Okung is on pace to play in a pivotal Monday night matchup against the Houston Texans.

Okung, who was acquired in the offseason, is having yet another standout season and will be imperative for success against a Texans team that already has racked up 16 sacks on the season. After being cleared for physical activity, No. 73 participated in the “majority” of snaps over the weekend.

“Today is their day to get cleared. They’re in the normal protocol, and those are our expectations,” Head Coach Gary Kubiak said Friday when asked about Okung and wide receiver Cody Latimer. “Up to this point, they both practiced today.”

Veteran linebacker DeMarcus Ware has yet to be cleared for action after sustaining a broken forearm during the Week 2 win against the Colts. Despite the injury, coaches and staff are expecting him to be eased into practice later this week.

“The routine was to do the CT scan this week and check the healing. Everything looked great and to get him some work. He did some work before you came out today,” Kubiak stated. “He worked out in the [Pat Bowlen Fieldhouse]. He’s been working. Our expectations are that he’s back with our football team next week.”

Wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, who took a vicious shot late in the Thursday night game, was a full participant all week and will start for the Orange & Blue.

After losing two straight, the mini-bye was a sigh of relief for the health of the organization—mentally and physically.
