Denver Broncos' Week 5 Practice Report: Starting QB a game-time decision

The Denver Broncos, who have been relatively fortunate when it comes to injuries this season, saw starting quarterback Trevor Siemian go down after he was body slammed in their 27-7 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Paxton Lynch played well in his absence but the Gary Kubiak was clear throughout the week: Siemian is the starter and he will be given every chance to play.

“I’d take it all the way to game day. I trust Trevor,” he said. “He knows exactly what we’re doing and he’s very bright. He’s on top of everything today. He’s a part of the walk-throughs and everything that we’re doing so he’s on top of everything. We’ll just see where he’s at physically.”

If Siemian is unable to go Sunday, Lynch will make his first career NFL start. The rookie completed 58-percent of his passes for 170-yards and one touchdown in relief of Siemian last Sunday.

Both Virgil Green and Donald Stephenson, who have missed the last two weeks with calf injuries, have been upgraded to questionable after being able to practice this week.

“Virgil was limited in practice. I would say Donald did a little more than Virgil so they both took a step toward playing this weekend,” Kubiak told Denver media. “We’ll see where we’re at.”

DeMarcus Ware and defensive captain Kayvon Webster have both been ruled out for the 2:05 MST contest; look for the prior to be sidelined for at least 2-3 more weeks as he nurses a broken forearm.
