Denver Broncos Week 10 Practice Report: Two key players ruled out

The Denver Broncos travel to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome this week for a matchup with the league’s leading passer, and they’ll be doing so without two key components on the defensive side of the ball.

Pro-Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib has officially been ruled out for his third straight game with lower back issues. Coaches and staff are optimistic that No. 21 could see the field as early as Week 12 at home against the Chiefs after the much-needed bye week.

“Nothing has changed. He’s out here and he’s part of the walk through,” head coach Gary Kubiak told Denver media Friday. “It’s a day-to-day process as we work through this thing. Really nothing’s changed in the last couple of days.”

Joining Talib as the only two Broncos officially ruled out for the contest is Derek Wolfe, who suffered a hairline fracture to his elbow late in the third quarter in the loss to the Oakland Raiders. Wolfe is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.

With No. 95 out for the foreseeable future, look for rookie defensive end Adam Gotsis and nose tackle Darius Kilgo to see extended playing time against a Saints team that has the 15th best rushing attack in the NFL.

“We have our five guys that we’ll go into the game with. We’ve been suiting six in some situations. It’s just something that we have to battle through,” Kubiak added. “Some younger guys have to play better, and some older guys probably have to play a little more.”

Cornerback and special teams captain Kayvon Webster returned to practice this week after not traveling with the team to Oakland. Webster, who has been battling a hamstring injury suffered in Week 6, was limited at practice but in full gear and will see the gridiron in New Orleans.
