Your Denver Broncos are 2-0; doesn’t it feel good?
OK, it’s only the preseason, but a win’s a win, as they say. Last night, the Broncos rallied to comeback and win 14-10 over the Houston Texans, with a majority of the game being played by second and third-stringers. But, the major takeaway is that Denver continues to prove its depth is strong as those backups keep performing late in contests.
In the second quarter, we saw just how good Brock Osweiler can be when he uncorked this beautiful, perfect spiral to Andre Caldwell on a skinny post. Osweiler hits his receiver right in the hands, perfectly in stride, which allows him to run into the end zone untouched. 7-0, Denver.
Later in the second quarter, Ronnie Hillman took off on this inside tackle run, showing off speed and awareness. Props to Ty Sambrailo for angling his man outside so there was a hole for Hillman, then, for his quick footwork and desire to block in the second level. It wasn’t just a 15-yard run but a much-needed first down, too.
Finally, early in the third quarter, outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett came up with a huge sack of Tom Savage as Barrett simply ran around tackle Aaron Adams. Look at Adams’ and Savage’s looks of frustration after the play.
Oh, and when they called the personal foul on Barrett? Yes, he ripped Chris Polk‘s helmet off, but on the replay you can see his hand was on the ball and he nearly pulled it out for a fumble. It doesn’t look like Barrett did it intentionally just to be malicious.
