The Denver Broncos have officially placed the exclusive franchise tag on Von Miller.

As Breer points out, the numbers attached the tag are still unknown but it likely means Miller will earn just over $14 million this year unless he and the Broncos can come to an agreement that is sure to pay him much more before July 14. There was a brief period of hope that the two parties could get a long-term deal done before today’s deadline to place a franchise tag, giving the broncos the opportunity to use it on another player, but the two sides couldn’t come to an agreement in the short amount of time after the season.

Denver Broncos general manager John Elway released a statement through the team on the transaction. “Designating Von as our franchise player gives us the time to continue working toward a long-term agreement,” Elway said. “We’ve had productive talks with Von’s representation, and we’ll continue those discussions with the goal of making sure Von remains a Bronco well into the future.”

The Super Bowl MVP notched 11 sacks during the regular season and turned it up a notch in the post-season, tallying 5.5 sacks including, of course, two strip-sacks of Cam Newton en route to a championship. There was never a doubt, but Broncos fans can now be 100-percent sure #58 will be back in the Orange & Blue next season.
