Denver Broncos not signing OT Jake Long today

Jake Long will not be a Denver Broncos player. At least not at this time.

The Broncos brought Long in on Thursday and gave him a workout, but just as the team’s UC Health sponsorship press conference began, Troy Renck sent out this tweet:

John Elway echoed this:

Long is a former No. 1 overall pick who was released by the St. Louis Rams last March. The tackle was tremendous in college at Michigan, as a consensus All-American, before being drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2008. He started 78 games for the Dolphins from 2008-2012, then was singed by St. Louis, where he started 15 games in 2013 and only seven last year.

His season was cut short due to a torn ACL. He’s 30 years old and he’s dealt with multiple injuries over his career. But, Long was a four-time Pro Bowler from 2008-2011 and first-team All-Pro in 2010.

The Broncos are looking to bolster their offensive tackle depth following Ryan Clady’s torn ACL sustained in OTAs. Rookie Ty Sambrailo is set to start at that crucial left tackle position, while Chris Clark is in line at right tackle. Denver kicks off their 2015 training camp tomorrow at 10 a.m.
