The preseason is upon us, football fans. Last week, the opening week of preseason, many of the Denver Broncos starters sat.

This time around, the superstars need to play and get that game-time feel back. Peyton Manning will be there, under center and throwing passes. As will Demaryius Thomas, likely in a limited role with Manning. And more stars — DeMarcus Ware, Chris Harris and others — should be in the game against the Houston Texans as well.

One starter will make his return to the football field for the first time since that playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts in January, coming back from the lis franc foot injury. He’ll be key to the Denver defense’s production this year, lining up at inside linebacker next to Danny Trevathan.

But head coach Gary Kubiak said the Broncos will sit out Trevathan, who sustained multiple knee injuries in 2014, as well as starting receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

“I don’t think so,” Kubiak said of Sanders playing. “He hasn’t worked, we took a little different approach this week. He’s feeling good, but to all of a sudden turn him around – we kind of think that’s why we got ourselves set back a little bit last week. So, I would think not.’’

Sanders has been dealing with a hamstring injury the last few days and the rest is more a precautionary measure.

Still, it hasn’t dampened the life-loving receiver’s attitude:

Sitting Sanders means a continued increase of playing time for Cody Latimer. The second-year stud who is “way ahead of last year” as he explained, will start opposite of Thomas this week. He started in place of Thomas in Week 1, and Latimer hauled in four passes for 49 yards.
