The latest football movie script from hollywood was released today but instead of it appearing in a theater near you, it opened at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
For the first time as a backup since he served that role to Todd Helton at Tennessee, Peyton Manning came to the call of his struggling Broncos to put an exclamation point on his return leading the team to 20 second half points in the clinching win.
5th straight AFC West title? Check.
Home Field advantage throughout the playoffs? Check.
Who’s the starting quarterback going forward? Still unknown.
“Sometimes you just feel like the team is looking around for that guy, or that tremendous leadership type of stuff and that’s what I felt,” Kubiak said postgame. “I don’t think Brock did anything wrong but it’s just what my gut told me to turn it over to him (Manning) and lead the football team so that’s what I did.”
So now you’re left with a capable starter in Osweiler who has shown success, and a Hall of fame quarterback looking to prove himself still valuable in the league. Quite the conundrum for Gary Kubiak who in his postgame presser admitted “it’s been a weird year for me too,” but Kubiak seem’s confident he’ll find the answer.

After taking over in the third quarter, Manning completed 5 of 9 passes for 69 yards, led the Broncos on 4 scoring drives and didn’t turn the football over, which the team struggled mightily with in the first half.
Peyton on starting “I don’t know, have to see how I feel tomorrow. Got a good welcome back (with hits) just glad we won AFC west.”

The tune from both Manning and Osweiler about their futures was simply unknown. Neither of them have had conversations with the coaching staff this early on to decide the future going forward but both are focused on the bigger picture and the team.
Osweiler “as long as the team is winning games I don’t care who’s the quarterback.”

Manning was quick to jump to Osweiler’s defense certainly knowing what he went through with the bad bounces and Osweiler continues to handle himself as a true professional and show Manning the respect he deserves.
This hollywood story will have to wait for it’s next chapter divisional round weekend, when the Broncos will host either the Texans, Steelers or Chiefs at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
