Denver Broncos defense on pace for greatest season that PFF has ever graded

Pro Football Focus began grading the NFL in 2007. You could argue that they were the first group to create a real, legitimate measuring stick for the masses. PFF created a place where anyone can go to see how good a player actually is. Every player is graded on every play, in every game.

Since 2007, PFF has graded some pretty good defenses, including the 2011 San Francisco 49ers and the 2013 Seattle Seahawks. Both of whom happen to be the two top rated defenses in PFF’s short, eight-year history.

The 2013 Seahawks recorded an incredible 337 quarterback pressures. The 2011 49ers had 308 of their own. These are the kind of numbers that legends are made of. That Niners team would go on to lose in the NFC championship game and the 2013 Seahawks would actually win the Super Bowl over Denver.

Fast forward to the 2015 Denver Broncos. They have already recorded a mind-numbing 101 QB pressures, meaning that they are on pace for an absolutely stupid 404 pressures this season.

PFF actually broke all of this down and even scaled back the numbers, and if the Broncos only achieve 75% of their expected goal, they will still end up with the most pressures ever and the highest overall defensive grade ever.

Check out PFF’s entire post on this, right here.

Year Team Total QB pressures Sacks Hits Hurries
2011 San Francisco 49ers 308 43 58 207
2013 Seattle Seahawks 337 49 72 216
2014 Denver Broncos 303 46 60 197
2015 (four weeks) Denver Broncos 101 18 19 64
