Denver Broncos defense on pace to make history but DeMarcus Ware only cares about one thing

The Denver Broncos are now 4-0 for the eighth time in franchise history. But unlike those seven other years, every one of these wins has came from a big defensive play or turnover in the final quarter.

They sacked Teddy Bridgewater seven times and have already compiled a league leading 18 sacks for the season. The Denver Broncos are on pace to record a whopping 72 sacks, which would equal the most sacks ever recorded in a season, last done by the 1984 Chicago Bears.

For one player, it’s not about records though. At least, not yet. I caught up with DeMarcus Ware after the game and asked him if he ever thinks about the records or is even aware of them. “That’s a media thing,” he said. “At the end of the day, we look at it as a ‘W.’ We’re just trying to win any way possible because when an individual wins, a team wins.”

No team since 1989 has eclipsed the 70 sack mark. With quarterbacks getting rid of the ball faster than ever before, it’s become more difficult than ever to bring down the QB. DeMarcus Ware, at 33 years old, already has 4.5 sacks and is on pace for 18 by seasons end.

For Ware, it’s all about winning right now. He’ll check out the numbers later. After the win on Sunday he said, “We’ll talk about the records later when we can sit down as a team but right now we’re just looking week-to-week and going from there.”

It’s safe to say Ware will have a lot to talk about by seasons end. And at this rate, he might have to wait until February to talk about it.
