David Bruton is a class act through and through.

On the football field, Bruton has shown nothing but class and excellence when it comes to working his tail off to be the best player he can be. Originally selected but he Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2009 NFL Draft, Bruton’s done everything in his power to work his way onto the gridiron.

While he’s been used primarily as a special teams ace — serving as the unit’s captain in 2013, 2014 and this season — the seventh-year pro has impressed coaches enough to earn playing time as part of the No. 1 defense in the NFL. That additional playing time is paying off, as Bruton has career-highs in total tackles (30), passes defended (6), interceptions (2), with one interception, forced fumble and fumble recovery through 11 games.

Now, Bruton has also been recognized for his off-the-field work for the second year in a row, being named the Denver Broncos Walter Peyton Man of the Year Award recipient. The award, which is presented by Nationwide, recognizes a player for outstanding leadership on the field and in the community.

His David Bruton Foundation started Bruton’s Books in April of this year, with a goal of improving reading proficiency in children the ages of kindergarten through third grade. So far, Bruton’s Books has donated 1,350 books to four schools in Denver while he also donated $26,000 to Mile High United Way to use towards literacy programs. Bruton has also participated in the Play 60 campaign, Drive for Life, Taste of the Broncos as well as other Boys & Girls Club events.

Nationwide will donate $10,000 to Bruton’s Books due to his award win and he is now in the running for the national Walter Peyton Man of the Year Award, which will be announced during Super Bowl week.

In 2014, he was named a Broncos Community Ambassador Award winner. This year, Kenny Anunike, Chris Harris, Virgil Green and Brandon Marshall were honored as Community Ambassadors, while Taurean Nixon was named Broncos Community Rookie of the Year.
